## Why we built Vislock

I issued my first Permit to Dig back in the 1990s.

Over the following 30 years, I had the privilege of working on some of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects, developing permit processes and safety procedures designed to reduce the risk of utility strikes.

Like everyone else in the industry, we relied on paper permits.

Despite having good processes, experienced people and the best intentions, utility strikes still happened.

The problem wasn’t the process. The problem was paper.

In 2018, I had a eureka moment. I asked myself one simple question:

“What if we could build a digital platform that didn’t just replace paper, but controlled the entire permit process through intelligent gateways?”

That idea became Vislock.

Today, Vislock supports over 15,000 users and has become the preferred digital permit platform for organisations looking to reduce the risk of utility strikes and improve safety across major construction and infrastructure projects.

But Vislock is much more than a digital Permit to Dig.

We built the platform from the ground up using decades of real project experience and lessons learned from the industry’s biggest challenges.

By combining intelligent workflows with GIS mapping, geofencing, digital approvals, competency management, photo validation and complete audit trails, Vislock ensures that every stage of the excavation process is controlled, verified and accountable before work begins.

The result is greater visibility, better compliance, improved collaboration and, most importantly, safer projects.
